Yes it’s official, the Barndoor Gathering in Holland set a new world record of 102 pre 1955 VW Buses on display together! Check out the amazing pics and centre poster this issue! As well as the Barndoor meet we also cover Stanford Hall – and it really was a case of “The sun has got his hat on, Hip Hip Hip Hooray!”
Two very special Splits grace our pages this month. Newly out this season, after a two year restoration to original spec, is Ron Brown’s 1960 15 Window Deluxe, a Samba without a sunroof or skylights, and how nice to see a Microbus restored as a Microbus and not turned into a camper. Even less common a model is Westfalia’s SO22, aka Camping Mosaic, a kit form camping interior. Realising the rarity of the interior the owner had the cabinets and woodwork carefully refurbished before updating the upholstery and adding some custom upgrades to a basically stock bus.
Our Bay features take the mild custom route this month. A Subaru powered 72 camper, resplendent in new Aspen White over Pepper White for a subtle custom twist, shows how much can be done if you set your mind to it, whilst a ‘hit the beach’ themed 71 Bay shows the dedication of its owner to take the beach with him wherever he goes. It even has a real sand floor in the cargo area! If you are into mountain biking and edit a magazine called ‘Cranked’ devoted to the sport, what better than a signwritten T3 Doka to advertise your magazine and carry your bikes and gear? Finally, showing how Microbus > People Carrier has moved on over the years, our T4 feature is an immaculate Tornado Red eight seater Caravelle still being used as a family people carrier.
Travel wise Two Bays tour the Wild Atlantic Way in Ireland, taking in locations used in Game of Thrones, and our T3 African Safari continues with Close Encounters with Lions.
All this and more – enjoy
