VW Camper 147 January 2020
To welcome in the New Year we have plenty of buses inside to help keep the bus dream alive and put a smile on your face, plus a summer of shows to look forwards to. There’s a bit of a custom and orange theme going on this issue with an orange race styled 58 Kombi complete with full internal roll cage and some very impressive engine specs, and an orange custom T3 Doka lowered to the max using hydraulics. Continuing the custom styling theme, our T4 is a former Caravelle combining Hot Rod and Rat Bus styling to create that “as found in a field” look – the owner jokingly calls it the “Caravile.” Both Bay features also offer something different – a pastel green and white former Microbus now with a revamped 60’s Devon interior that oozes with period charm and a twin sliding door panel van originally converted by Danbury but now with a Viking Spacemaker interior that has the kitchen sited in the rear. Last up is a 1966 former Swiss Army Radio Van. Many ex-military or emergency service VW buses have been turned into campers, losing some of their identity in the process; this former Army Bus however has kept its military heritage and still sports a host of quirky original fittings.
Whilst it’s dark and cold outside you can re-ignite that summer feeling with Beach Dubbin and Field of Dreams, vicariously join the Wolfsburg Bus crew on their cruise to Spa Le Bug show and admire a host of buses lined up on the seafront at Brighton Breeze. And to help inspire you for your next bus adventure we start a journey down to Italy via the Alps in an Early Bay.
