VWBus T4&5+ Issue 69 (issue: Issue 69)
VWBus T4&5+ Issue 69
Happy New Year!
2018 is off and running with issue 69. Our New Year’s resolution is to find you
the best, most varied selection of T4s and T5s, plus some T6s, Crafters and Caddys
to feature in the pages of the UK’s best-selling VW magazine. Here’s what we’ve
found for issue one. A mid-top T5 that was a flower van and is now a simple but
stylish camper. Andrew Thompson took some amazing pictures of it down in
Cornwall. Andrew also visited the beach for the stunning shoot of our cover bus this
month, a minty monster, T4 Swamper. It’s ‘long and tall and lovely’ as the song goes,
although I’m pretty sure they didn’t have a Swamper in mind when they wrote The
Girl From Ipanema… Anne Rogers also did two feature shoots for us this month. The
first is a true surf bus with Scottish lineage, which goes some way to explain the
‘Modern Mitchell’ tartan that adorns this cool T5. The next is a real rarity only 85
Dehler Optima 5.1s were ever built and confusingly they were all T4s. This coachbuilt
classic came over from Holland for the shoot. Simon Cooke shot another van from
the Surfstyle stable, this one is a T4 with a patina’d Shell theme. The shoot took
place in an old jail of all places, we haven’t asked Simon yet how he knows about it
or how he had access. The final shoot was done by the owner of a cool Cherry red,
LWB T6, luckily he also runs a company which specialises in taking videos and stills
from aerial drones, so he knows a thing or two about photography. So, a mid–top T5,
a tartan trimmed T5, a long wheel base T6, a long wheelbase Swamper T4, a Shell
themed T4 and a Dehler Opitima 5.1 T4. There’s definitely some variation in there
and when you look through I’m sure you’ll agree some pretty cool stuff too.
Elsewhere in the magazine Andrew went to SEMA in Las Vegas, Steve went to
Harewood House for the VW Festival, Cornwall to the Blue Hills campsite and
Barnoldswick to visit Pendle Performance, Simon visited Basingstoke for an Endless
Summer and the Midlands for the annual Mini VW Bus meet, while Rob went to
Oldham to study the science of sound with Noisekiller.
There is, of course, still loads more in issue 69. But like last year and every year that
preceded it, you’ll need to buy a copy to find out what.
