Q-P Issue 99 front cover

99th issue

In the making of this 99th issue, we shook off the winter and echoed the feeling of the incoming summer. Like the fresh-cut grass smell that left us counting the days to Wimbledon, which prompted us to explore tennis bracelets: in other words, the line bracelet that earned its modern moniker when tennis champion Chris Evert was always photographed wearing it mid-play. And on our studio visit to see the Berlin-based artist Andi Fischer, we also discovered some parallels between his ideas uncovering the darkness behind light, and our own print journey. “Art wasn't just the ‘old masters’, it could also be young and progressive,” says Fischer of his inspirations, a sentiment that feels true to the world of watches, jewellery and collecting that we love to explore. Continuing that thread elsewhere in the issue, we look to the pioneering set of young jewellery brands salvaging gold from electronics waste; dive into the trends of Japanese design as well as the Grand Seiko watch brand; and test-drive the all-new Norton bikes trying to regain the crown of luxury motorbike manufacturing once again. And in our profile of Solange Azagury-Partridge, we explore how she has injected new life – and lips – into luxury codes of the jewellery world. In our cover story, we journey through a long life of luxury codes — Patek Philippe’s Travel Time complication. In Milena Lazazzera’s words, these storied timepieces are truly a testament to the human fascination in mastering the measurement of time. And we visualise a dual role for these watches.

Between all the watch innovations and design newness to be found in these pages, the feature in this issue I’d like to experience the most this summer might just be a sun-soaked coastal road trip in an open-top classic car. Hit the road, enjoy the light and see you in the autumn!
