Outdoor Swimmer is the magazine for outdoor swimmers by outdoor swimmers. Launched as H2Open in 2011, we rebranded to Outdoor Swimmer in April 2017 but our mission has always been the same: to provide inspiration for people who swim outdoors.
Our aim is to bring you the best outdoor swimming has to offer, from fabulous swimming locations, amazing challenges and the best training advice. So, whether you're new to the sport and looking for advice on getting started or an old hand after some training tips, you'll find the information you need between our pages. Or, if you're more of a leisure swimmer, you'll love our destination features, top spots and holiday ideas. Our readers come from all around the globe. They call themselves wild swimmers, sea swimmers, ice swimmers, outdoor swimmers, marathon swimmers or just plain swimmers. Some are young, others are young at heart, but they all love open water swimming.
We publish Outdoor Swimmer magazine monthly. You can subscribe to the print magazine from anywhere in the world or you can read us digitally on your PC, iPad or Android device.
Even if you don't (yet) swim outside you'll still enjoy our inspirational stories and training advice, and hopefully we can help you get out of that chlorinated box.
We are a small, independent company and we rely on the support of our readers and advertising partners to produce high quality, relevant and inspiring content for swimmers.
Founder & publisher
Simon is a frequent and enthusiastic outdoor swimmer who has swum the length of Coniston, the length of Windermere and the Solent. He's also been a national masters champion in the pool over the much shorter distance of 200m. He started Outdoor Swimmer (H2Open at the time) after working as a freelance contributor to Triathlete's World magazine and realising that there was no publication dedicated to the fast-growing audience of outdoor swimmers.

Jonathan is a year-round swimmer who loves a bit of summer wetsuit racing as much as he loves cold water skins swimming. This winter he will be training for an ice kilometre. He particularly likes challenges that combine swimming with his love of trail running. His Outdoor Swimmer motto: “Do as I say, not as I do.”

From your first 25m to long distance solo swims and relays, effective pool and land training, winter dips and wild swim adventures, Alice is passionate about all aspects of outdoor swimming, and enabling others to enjoy the water as well as raising awareness and helping find solutions to the social and environmental issues that are so entwined with our love of water. She is a qualified swim teacher and founder of A Lotus Rises, the Women's Swimming Collective on a mission to increase visibility, access and participation of women in swimming and Senior Fellow at the International Institute for Swim Cake Studies. Her swims include a 4-woman English Channel Relay; the Solent; the Big Swim from Palm Beach to Whale Beach and competing in the International Winter Swimming Championships in China. She's equally happy splashing in tarns, or hanging out with swim buddies and eating cake at Tooting Lido and the Serpentine.
