This exceedingly popular book, written by Celia Davis NDB, was updated to the 3rd edition in 2020.

It is recommended reading specifically for beekeeping examination module 5 (Honeybee Biology) and comprises 160 pages of detailed information about the anatomy and physiology of the honey bee. Absolutely ideal for anyone wanting to learn and understand more about the internal workings of this important pollinator.

These pages are divided into eight full colour, beautifully illustrated chapters each of which covers a new aspect of bee biology. Most of the diagrams have been drawn from the author’s own dissections and so give a realistic rather than an idealistic impression of the parts involved.

This was originally Celia’s first book which was followed by ‘The Honey Bee Around and About’ covering module 2 (Honeybee Products and Forage), module 3 (Honeybee Pests, Diseases and Poisoning) and module 7 (Selection and Breeding of Honeybees) of the beekeeping examinations.

Together these two books provide a comprehensive resource essential for students of beekeeping examinations.
